Those getting a closer look could include Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack and Westwood, Englewood Hospital and Medical Center, Holy Name Medical Center and The Valley Hospital, the report says.
The hospitals and their advocates are lobbying the Legislature to enact laws protecting them from taxes, Njspotlight.com reports.
The judge in the Morristown decision ruled that the nonprofit hospital was no longer the charitable organization it was when it was exempted from property taxes, the reports says.
Based on trial evidence, he said, nearly all of the hospital was taxable because for-profit services and finances were intermingled with non-profit functions, according to the report.
